Search Tool
Overview
The Search Tool is a comprehensive spatial discovery system that provides intelligent location services and rapid visualization of geographic features through multiple integrated data sources and formats. This powerful tool combines ArcGIS search components with custom search services to deliver seamless access to STT databases, external cadastral systems, coordinate-based navigation, and specialized forestry datasets, enabling users to quickly locate and navigate to specific areas, features, or coordinates with precision and efficiency.
Search Options
The Search in dropdown offers All (the default) followed by these sources, in this order: Provcoupe, Block, Compartment, Asset Points, Asset Lines, Asset Polygons, Operation, Property, Property Right, Address, Cadastre (LIST), EMP, Road, Fire Towers, Asset Point Name, Apiary Site Map Label.

Coordinate Formats
- EPSG:28355 (GDA94 / MGA zone 55) easting and northing, separated by a comma (e.g.,
525000, 5250000)
Other formats, such as latitude/longitude, decimal degrees or degrees minutes seconds, are not accepted by the search box; use the Coordinate Tool for those.

Using the Tool
Basic Search
Select data type:
- Default is 'All'
- Choose specific type for targeted search
Enter search value:
- Type in search term
- Wait for suggestions (they start after 2 characters; up to 6 are listed)
Specific Search Methods
what3words Search
- Enter location in XXX.XXX.XXX format: three words separated by two dots, with no leading
///or other symbols - Press Enter (the search box has no visible search button)
- The map zooms to the location and marks it with a pin. If the words cannot be resolved, a Cannot find the w3w location warning appears
Coordinate Search
- Enter coordinates in the search bar as EPSG:28355 easting and northing, separated by a comma (e.g.,
525000, 5250000) - Press Enter. The map zooms to the point at 1:10,000 and marks it with a pin
WARNING
Coordinate searches are validated against Tasmania bounds. EPSG:28355 coordinates must be within X: 190,000–640,000 and Y: 5,120,000–5,630,000. Coordinates outside this range will not return results; a The location is outside of extent warning appears instead.
Latitude/Longitude Search
The search box does not accept latitude/longitude: a pair such as -42.88, 147.33 is read as an EPSG:28355 easting and northing, and returns The location is outside of extent. To go to a latitude/longitude:
- Use DD format in the Coordinate Tool
- Execute search there
