NOI Editor

Overview

The NOI (Notice of Intent) Editor is a specialized map editing system designed for creating, managing, and documenting Notice of Intent geospatial features. This tool supports line and polygon geometries for mapping planned road construction, cart routes, and harvest boundaries, with dedicated symbology, filter-by-name capabilities, and integrated advanced geometric operations.

Key Features:

  • Line and Polygon Geometry Support: Create polyline features (planned roads, cart routes) and polygon features (harvest boundaries)
  • Dedicated NOI Symbology: Industry-standard symbols rendered by the server for consistent map presentation
  • Name-Based Layer Management: Organise features by NOI name with dropdown selection and free-text entry
  • Filter by Name: Instantly filter map layers to show only features matching the selected NOI name
  • Continuous Drawing Mode: Create multiple features in a single session without re-clicking the draw button
  • Live Measurements: Show real-time length (metres) and area (hectares) while drawing
  • Label Toggle: Show or hide feature labels on NOI data layers
  • Integrated Advanced Editor: Access buffer, union, intersect, and difference operations
  • Three-Tier Feature Selection: Robust selection that works with Feature Layers and Map Image Layers, including result cycling for overlapping features

Getting Started

Opening the NOI Editor

Open Unified Editor

  1. Look for the Unified Editor icon (pencil) on the right toolbar
  2. Click the icon to open the editor panel
  3. Select NOI mode from the mode selector at the top

What You Can Do

  • Create planned road construction lines
  • Draw planned cart route paths
  • Define planned harvest boundary polygons
  • Filter and manage features by NOI name
  • Perform advanced geometric operations (buffer, union, intersect, difference)

Layer Management

Setting Up Layer Names

The NOI Name Selection panel (a collapsible accordion at the top) contains all name controls. Before you can start drawing, you need to set an NOI layer name:

  1. Use Dropdown: Select an existing NOI name from the list (refreshes on click)
  2. Type New Name: Enter a new NOI name in the text field below the dropdown
  3. Wait for Activation: Drawing tools, style buttons, and selection tools become available once a name is set

The system automatically creates these layers when you provide a layer name:

  • NOI Polyline Layer (for line features)
  • NOI Polygon Layer (for polygon features)
  • NOI Graphics layers (for temporary drawing and reference)

Filter by Name

Use the Filter by Name switch to show only features matching the selected NOI name on the map:

  1. Select an existing name from the NOI Names dropdown
  2. Toggle the Filter by Name switch on
  3. Both polyline and polygon layers immediately filter to show only features with that name
  4. Toggle off to show all features again

WARNING

The filter only responds to names selected from the dropdown. Typing a name in the text field initialises the editor for that name but does not apply the filter.

TIP

While the filter is on, changing the dropdown selection automatically re-applies the filter to the new name — no need to toggle off and back on.

INFO

The filter is automatically cleared after printing to prevent stale filter states.

Geometry Types

Choose the geometry type from the dropdown. NOI supports two geometry types:

Line Features

  • Best for: Road construction plans, cart route directions, linear boundaries
  • Note: Point geometry is not supported in the NOI Editor

Polygon Features

  • Best for: Harvest boundaries, area definitions

INFO

Changing the geometry type clears all current graphics and resets the drawing state.

Style Selection

Line Styles

Click a style icon to select it before drawing. The active style is highlighted.

Style NameDescription
Planned Road ConstructionMark planned road construction lines
Planned Cart RouteDraw planned cart route paths
Not CodedIndication only — drawing is disabled

Polygon Styles

Style NameDescription
Planned Harvest BoundaryDefine planned harvest boundary areas
Not CodedIndication only — drawing is disabled

INFO

Styles labelled "Not Coded" are for reference only. The draw button is disabled when a Not Coded style is selected, with a tooltip explaining: "Unknown features are for indication only — cannot draw new geometry."

All styles are disabled until a layer name is entered.

Drawing Features

Toolbar Toggles

Three toggles are available before drawing:

ToggleDescription
MultipleEnable continuous drawing to create multiple features in one session
MeasureShow real-time length (metres) and area (hectares) while drawing
LabelToggle labels on/off for all NOI data layers on the map

Before You Start

  1. Set an NOI layer name
  2. Choose a geometry type (Line or Polygon)
  3. Select a style (not "Not Coded")

Drawing Steps

For Lines:

  1. Click the Draw Polyline button
  2. Click points on the map to define the route
  3. Double-click to complete the line (or press ESC to cancel)

For Polygons:

  1. Click the Draw Polygon button
  2. Click points on the map to define the boundary
  3. Double-click to close and complete the polygon (or press ESC to cancel)

Continuous Drawing Mode

When the Multiple toggle is enabled:

  • Each completed feature is added without clearing the previous one
  • All accumulated features can be saved together in a single Save action

INFO

Switching the Geometry Type dropdown cancels active drawing and clears all unsaved graphics, but the Multiple toggle stays on. Turn it off manually if you no longer want continuous drawing after switching types.

Managing Features

Selecting Existing Features

  1. Click the Select button to activate selection mode
  2. Click on an existing NOI feature on the map
  3. The feature is highlighted and available for editing or deletion
  4. Click an already-selected feature to deselect it

For overlapping features (especially with Map Image Layer data), clicking the same location repeatedly cycles through available features with indicators showing progress (e.g., "1/3", "2/3").

Editing Features

  1. Select a feature using the Select tool
  2. Click the Edit button to enter reshape mode
  3. Drag vertices to modify the geometry
  4. Click elsewhere on the map to finish editing

INFO

If multiple features are present, the most recently drawn feature enters edit mode. A notice indicates how many other features are in the layer.

Deleting Features

  1. Select a feature using the Select tool
  2. Click the Delete button (trash icon)
  3. The feature is permanently removed from the server

For multiple selected features, the tool deletes each one and reports the total count deleted.

Saving Features

  1. Draw or edit features on the map
  2. Open the Save accordion panel
  3. Optionally enter a Display Label for the feature
  4. Click the Save button
  5. A success notification confirms the save

Features are saved to the NOI layer service and the map refreshes to display the server-rendered symbology.

Resetting

Click the Reset button to:

  • Clear all graphics from the map
  • Cancel any active drawing or selection
  • Reset all toolbar button states

Advanced Features

Advanced Editor Integration

The bottom of the NOI Editor panel includes the Advanced Editor, which provides:

  • Buffer: Create buffer zones around selected geometries
  • Union: Merge multiple geometries into one
  • Intersect: Find the overlapping area of two geometries
  • Difference: Subtract one geometry from another

INFO

The Advanced Editor requires a layer name to be set. An informational message appears if no name is entered.

Tips & Troubleshooting

Tips

  • Set a name first: All drawing tools and styles are disabled until you enter or select an NOI layer name
  • Use Filter by Name: When working on a specific NOI, toggle the filter to reduce visual clutter on the map
  • Use Multiple mode: For creating several features of the same type, enable Multiple to avoid re-clicking the draw button
  • Check style selection: If the draw button appears disabled, ensure you haven't selected the "Not Coded" style

Common Issues
